julia glodowski
Julia Grazyna (Pelowska) Glodowski, 70 of Weirton, was called home in faith, on Friday, August 21. Julia fought cancer with courage and strength for over sixteen years. Julia was born in 1950 in Sokolnik, Poland, a small rural farm village north of Warsaw. After high school, Julia attended Poznan Polytechnic Institute where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering. She then taught at the university until she met her one true love, Edward Glodowski, while he visited his extended family in Poland. After some additional visits, they married in 1976. Julia immigrated to the USA and made Weirton her new home. Instead of joining and becoming a researcher at Weirton Steel’s R&D group as was their original plan, Julia embraced being a loving and devoted wife and mother. She nourished her faith as a longtime member of the Sacred Heart of Mary Parish in Weirton Julia was passionate about gardening and crafting with the flowers that she grew. She loved playing bridge where she made a number of dear friends that became family to her. Her proudest bridge moment was earning ACBL Life Master in a tournament where she played with a long-time bridge partner and great friend. Julia loved to cook and shared that love as often as she could. No one left her home hungry or empty handed. Julia worked tirelessly to love and care for her daughter, Dana. Her favorite role in life was being Babcia to her granddaughters, Julianna and Catherine, who she called her Roza and Kasia. Julia was proceeded in death by her husband, Edward Glodowski and by her parents, Jan and Irena Pelowski. She is survived by her daughter Dana at home, her son Matthew (Emily) Glodowski, her beloved and cherished granddaughters Julianna and Catherine Glodowski, all of Weirton, her brothers Andrzej Pelowski of Sokolnik, Poland, and Jurek (Irena) Pelowski of Poznan, Poland, her sister-in-law Henrietta (Adam) Stevenson of Dublin, OH, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, August 28, from 6-9pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, WV. A private Liturgy of the Word funeral will follow on Saturday led by the Rev. Fr. Larry Dorsch Interment will follow at a later date next to her husband at Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania. The Glodowski family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Rahman and the Teramana Cancer Center team for their years of loving and compassionate care. Memorial contributions in Julia’s honor may be made to the Sacred Heart of Mary Parish in Weirton or to a charity of your choosing. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com

  7. We both had the opportunity to be next door neighbors to Julia and her family for nearly 30-years. Julia was truly an amazing lady of many talents. She possessed one unique quality that stood out from all the rest – her strength. Not her physical strength, although she was strong in that sense, but her remarkable and unwavering strength of unconditional love for her family and life. Julia cooked amazing dishes and was always willing to share. Each spring she planted her garden and attended it daily. She grew the largest, most colorful flowers for everyone to enjoy. She made sure her son Matt got his engineering degree. She watched him grow, get married, start a family, giving Julia a wonderful caring daughter-in-law, and two precious granddaughters. She even managed to take some time for herself, becoming a remarkable bridge player. But, every single day, year after year, Julia’s first priority was taking care of her daughter Dana. Julia put aside her own life and health challenges to make sure Dana was cared for. Her unconditional love for Dana had no bounds. Dana was always first. Dana was loved and cared for in ways we’ve never seen before. This amazing strength of love extended all the way to the moment the Lord called her home. All her efforts of love were finally rewarded; Julia can now truly rest, in the Lord’s love and peace, forever. Tom and Patty Zielinsky
