Larry R. Zdinak, Sr.

Lawrence R. “Larry” Zdinak, Sr., 79, of Weirton died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Born in Steubenville, OH on May 29, 1942, Larry was the youngest of five children born to John and Josephine Yarchan Zdinak. A 1960 graduate of Weirton Madonna High School, Larry joined the workforce of Weirton Steel, where he worked for over three decades before retiring as a supervisor in the Service and Maintenance Department. He also served his country with the United States Air Force Reserves. Larry hails from a family of talented artists, and he was no exception. In high school he was the graphic artist for the school yearbook. Later in life he had numerous artistic contributions to his community, including designing the logo and letterhead for his church. His children also reaped the benefits of his talents in painting their favorite nursery rhyme stories and comic book characters on their bedroom walls, as well as creating team signs for the various sports they participated in. His flair in the arts also carried over to cake decorating, where he decorated countless cakes for family celebrations. For the most part, Larry enjoyed time around his home, whether it be hanging out with his family or working on interior and exterior projects around the house. He loved watching sci-fi movies and his beloved Notre Dame football on TV. For relaxation he liked to fish, read books, or join his friends at the local pub for a beer. His fondest memories he absolutely cherished were his trips to South Bend, IN to watch Notre Dame football games with his father, son, and brother, and the endless love and extreme pride for his wife, children, and granddaughters is something he will always be remembered for. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Weirton, Knights of Columbus, 3734, and the American Legion Post 10. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Clancey, his brother, Richard “Dick” Zdinak, and his infant brother, Bobby Zdinak. Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Dottie Jones Zdinak; his son, Larry R. and Nikki Zdinak, Jr.; his daughter, Dawn Zdinak; his brother, John Zdinak; and his three beautiful granddaughters, Averi, Adyson, and Aleigh Zdinak. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday.
