He truly was an inspirtion to all. Denise Cummins Ceraolo Alto-sax player Weir High Class of 1972

  16. Just wanted to say I have some great memories of Mr DeFilippo as my band director. I learned a love of music and so enjoyed Jr. High Band. He will be missed, my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

  17. I am very sorry to hear of Mr. DeFilippo’s passing. I am very grateful that after MANY years of not seeing him, that I was able to visit both him & his family during my trip home to Weirton 2 summers ago. Nearly 40 yrs. ago, Mr. DeFilippo , with MUCH patience, tolerated us young, rambunctious Jr. High drummers (who became very good friends with his own boys, Loren & Joey) and instilled my love of percussion which I carried through Weir High School and WVU marching bands. My prayers go out to the family during this time of sorrow. Take care & God bless.

  18. Sorry for your loss of your Dad, Joe. I just read your Dad’s obituary today, Monday. God be with you and your family. Brent, Jang, and Asia Beatty

  19. My deepest sympathies to the entire DeFilippo family. I was blessed to have Mr. DeFilippo as my junior high band director and appreciate all of his hard work and dedication to teaching a rag tag bunch of kids to appreciate music.

  20. Loren: So very sorry to learn of the loss of your dad. My thoughts are with you and your family.

  21. Mrs. DeFilippo, Mike, and the DeFilippo family, I have many fond memories of Mr. DeFilippo. When I was in 7th grade and joining the band, he persuaded me to play the flute instead of the clarinet, the instrument that I wanted to play. I am so glad that he did that. He was always so very kind to me. I just saw Mrs. DeFilippo at Kroger’s a few weeks ago and asked how he was doing. So sorry for your loss.

  22. To the DeFilippo Family’ I don’t think Loren knew how many souls he touched with the art of teaching music. He taught music in such a way that you yearned for more knowledge of the instrument that you chose. I remember the countless hours that he spent working with students and making them a better musician. I learned to appreciate all types of music and always have an open mind to different styles and cultures of music. Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of Loren. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

  23. I just learned of Mr. DeFilippo’s passing. He taught me to play the clarinet at Weir Junior in 1975. Of course I could not appreciate his devotion at that age but I have though of him often through the years. I was first chair because of his excellent teaching, as I had no other lessons than those he provided during band class. I will cherish the memories of band, and he made them possible. Prayers and gratitude for a fine teacher indeed. Sincerely, Roberta Kearns Taylor

  24. Mrs. DeFillippo and family, my sincere condolences on your loss. I had the honor of having both Mr. and Mrs. DeFilippo as my teachers. Mrs. DeFilippo was my first grade teacher at Marland Heights Elementary and Mr. DeFilippo my band director at Weir Jr. High. Weirton was blessed with a number of wonderful teachers who were married couples. I came into Weir Jr. playing the Alto Sax, and somehow, Mr. DeFilippo got me to play Baritone Sax. I cannot recall how that came about, but it certainly was fun. He would be happy to know that my daughter now plays the Viola. Music is such a wonderful gift to have in one’s life. Mr. DeFilippo, thank you for sharing your love of music with so many of us at Weir Jr. High.
