Louis G. Fekaris, 79, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011in Lancia Villa Royale in Steubenville, OH. Born October 13, 1931 in Weirton, he was a son of the late George and Virginia Avgoustis Fekaris. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Known as the "Mayor of Main Street" Mr. Fekaris was the retired owner and operator of Fekaris & Son Confectionary, Weirton Bus Terminal, Steubenville Bus Terminal, Danny's Arcade, G and L Charters, and the Charter Bus Service. After his retirement Lou enjoyed working in his backyard and garden. He was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church where he was a former director on the church board and served as past president of the Order of Ahepa Hancock Chapter #103. He was a member of American Legion Post 10, AARP, Chios Society Homer Chapter #4, Kardamelian Society and the All Saints Senior Citizens. Louie was a former member Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Weirton Rotary, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and the recipient of the E.R. Hartman Award. Louie's life was featured in Portrait of America. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife Georgette Frangakis Fekaris, whom he married August 25, 1957; daughter, Virginia Louise Fekaris; son, George Louis Fekaris and his wife Nicole; all of Weirton; grandchildren Georgia Marie and John Steven Pavlic, Kathryn Ann and Adam Louis Bonomo and Sophia Nicole and Faith Eloise Fekaris; four great grandchildren, Isaiah Andrew, Savannah Elizabeth and Owen Michael Pavlic, and Quarizmah Dupree Ratliff; very special family friends Danny Warrick and Wayne Scott. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Ahepa Services will be at 7pm Sunday followed by Trisagion service at 7:30pm. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10am until 11am funeral services at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. The Reverend Father Frank A. Milanese will officiate. Interment will follow in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062.

  2. Virginia, Georgette and Family, I remember Mr.Fekaris so well growing up downtown. He was a fixture that will always be remembered for his caring and kindness to all of the people that passed by or stopped in the bus terminal. I remember how nice he was when Virginia and I were making sweet and sour chicken in the kitchen of their home when we were in middle school, God love him he even tasted it. He will always be in my heart as well as the entire family. God Bless You All.

  6. Georgette, Virginia, and families: I think you know how sad I am to learn of the passing of the second Louie of our little block of Main & Taylor. As the next-door neighbor for so many years, Lou was very much a father figure to me, growing up. Years later, when we worked together in the Chamber and Rotary, he was very much a friend. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and those of my mom and dad, too.

  7. Lou was always a pleasant fellow and always looking to help people. He will be missed by many. The Bus Terminal and the Arcade were the center of the downtown area and so was Lou.
