Martha Vidas, 85, of Weirton, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Weirton Medical Center after a battle with cancer. She was born in Weirton on April 7, 1927, the youngest child of Karol and Kathryn Lesiczka Drelick She retired, after 30 years of service, from Monongahela Power Company to enjoy time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Buck), her son Charles (Chuck), four sisters, Nellie Klakos, Verna Webster, Clara Mihal, and Frances Wozniak, and two brothers Julius and Fred Drelick. Survivors include one son, Robert (Theresa) Vidas of Weirton, a daughter-in-law Marian Vidas of Cross Lanes, WV, two granddaughters, Courtney Vidas of Knoxville, TN, and Erica Rogers of Pittsburgh, PA, and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Four Seasons. She always worked on the reunion committee for the Weir High Class of '45 and loved spending time with her former classmates. She was active in the PTA when her sons were in school and played in a women's golf league until sidelined by a shoulder injury. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Tony Thurston presiding. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. The family would like to thank Dr. Makar and his staff and the staff of the Skilled Care Unit at Weirton Medical Center for the loving and professional care they provided. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062.

We will never forget the surprise when we discovered it was Martha who had deciphered the beautiful song Father Dean sang in Polish at Kenny’s Mother’s funeral! God bless each one of you. Dear Bobby, Theresa and family, We are so sad to hear of the loss of your Mom…..Martha was truly a lady…..I worked with her at the Power Co. 43 years ago where she taught me so much, including how to crochet. If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that she loved her family and was so proud of her boys and her grandchildren brought her much joy. I missed her this past Oct. when she didn’t feel strong enough to attend the Monongahela Power girls annual get together at Mario’s God bless you all and comfort you during this sad time.
