Michael John Andochick, 90, of Weirton passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Grace Cottage in Weirton, WV. Born November 28, 1930 in McKeesport, PA, the son of the late Michael and Ann Andochick. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, JoAnn Fullen Andochick and grandson Michael Marcus. Former Mayor Mike Andochick was elected mayor in 1971 and served two terms until 1979. He also served as a councilman and a member of the city’s Board of Parks and Recreation. He served for 32 years on the Hancock County Sheltered Workshop board of directors, 10 of those as president. He was instrumental in the construction of Greenbrier Manor, an eight-bedroom residential complex for adult handicapped individuals capable of independent living. He also assisted in the development of the laundry facility at the Hancock County Sheltered Workshop, which employs the majority of its clients and staff. He was also involved in public relations and support of the levy for the Hancock County Sheltered Workshop. During his time with the Weirton Park Board, he helped facilitate the implementation and development of the steam pipeline from Weirton Steel Corp. to the Millsop Community Center and Mary H. Weir Public Library. The steam pipeline heated both buildings, saving the city $1.2 million during an 18-year period. Andochick served on the Salvation Army board of directors for 10 years and was inducted into the Weirton Hall of Fame in 2015. Most importantly, he was the best father and grandfather we could ever hope for. He was admired and deeply loved. He provided his family with endless hope, determination and a strong will to live life to the fullest. Mike is survived by daughters Karen Andochick of Bradenton, FL, Shelly Haught (Paul) of Brecksville, OH, Nancy Marcus (Steve) of Charleston, WV, Jayne Kline (Tom) of Davidson, NC, Jo Ann Low (Tom) of Sterling, VA and Stephanie Zagula (Matt) of Weirton; 12 grandchildren, Paul-Michael, Joey, Robbie, Leah, Erica, Maggie, Christopher, Abby, Charlie, Jack, Matt and Ryan; and his brother, Ed (Pat) Andochick Of Frederick, MD . Visitation will be 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Saturday August 7, 2021, at the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 229 California Avenue, Weirton, WV. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM. Interment will be in Saint Paul's Cemetery, Weirton. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Grace Cottage for all their love, care and support.   4. When I was a beginning teacher and principal at Madonna HS, Mike treated me like a son. He was always kind and worked for the benefit of so many others.

  6. My condolences to the Andochick Family, Mike was a good father and gentle man. I’m a childhood friend of Stephanie, who I miss dearly, and nieghbor from Denese Dr. My Dad, Rich Wieloh, shared a story of a time when Mike caught Stephanie and I skipping school, but didn’t tell my parents at the time.   11. I was in high school when Your Dad was mayor. He had a youth advisory committee that Nikki and I were on and Mike let us have a youth rock concert at Starvaggi Pool on a Saturday evening. Mrs. Starvaggi didn’t like the loud music but Mike told her it was a good place to keep us supervised and out of trouble. Mike was a true gentleman whom we kids admired.
