Raymond Stephen Tompos, 64, of Weirton passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 in the Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV. Ray was born July 9, 1948 in Steubenville, OH to the late Senator William and Helen Bambrick Tompos. He was also preceded in death by his niece Brandi Lynne Tompos. Ray is survived by his companion of 22 years, Mary Carden and his brother Tom Tompos and companion Wanda Channing all of Weirton. Ray was a member of the First Christian Church of Weirton. He was a lifelong resident of Weirton and a successful local businessman for most of his life. He was in the 1966 graduating class of Weir High School and a 1970 graduate of West Liberty College with a BA degree in Political Science. He was elected Hancock County Surveyor twice, as well as being a member of the Democratic Executive Committee. He was a delegate to the 1972 Democratic Convention in Miami Beach, Florida. As a young man, Ray played bass horn in the Weir High Band in the famed 60's era and played bass guitar for several professional area bands. Ray was well known for his generosity to the needy, especially to the St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm and Saturday from 12 until the 1pm funeral service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. The Reverend Kevin Bowers will officiate. Entombment will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph's Indian School, P.O.   10. Tom and Mary and Family of my dear friend Ray, i too am suffering the loss of Ray because he was a man of advise and wisdom to me. He and I would chat for hours about life, business, history, politics, you name it. I will miss my conversations with him very much. Working for Ray was unique in that he held his work ethics out front and wanted only the best in all he did and he also shared his ideas that gave me the knowledge to succeed in what endeavors i sought. I will miss him and as you know i am always at your disposal for any thing you may need. May God let him rest peacefully and allow us all never to forget the great man that touched our lives.
