Richard J. “Ricky” Byers, Jr., 36, of Weirton, WV, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in Weirton Medical Center. Born October 17, 1981, in Weirton, he was the son of Richard J. and Rita Chastulik Byers, Sr. of Weirton. An entrepreneur from an early age, Ricky started mowing grass at the age of seven. His artistic ability was discovered in elementary school, when Nickelodeon took an interest in his cartoons. His love of racing started at the age of 3 when his father bought him a go- kart which he began racing by the age of seven. By the age of 16 Ricky bought his first Sprint Car and by 18 he was racing it. His love for racing, and his artistic talent led him to go into business with his father and eventually became the co-owner of Awesome Signs and owner of Ricky Byers Motor Sports. In his free time, he enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and Seinfeld. He will always be remembered for his love of cooking and was in charge of many of the family Thanksgiving dinners. Ricky was selected by the Sheetz Family to be A Sheetz Insider, representing the Weirton Area. He was also a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Jennifer Barker Byers, whom he married January 17, 2015; a sister, Rochelle Gabrielson (Joe) of Bristolville, OH; his dog, Kinser, and his extended racing family. Visitation will be held Sunday 6-8 pm and Monday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 am Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Church. The Reverend Father Anthony G. Thurston will officiate.
