Robert R. Klakos

Robert R. Klakos, 62, of Weirton died, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Saturday March 13, 2010, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North. Bob was born on September 8, 1947 in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late John Earl and Gladys (Gromek) Klakos. He was also preceded in death by his step father, Frank Zamojski, and a sister, Frances Karpinski. Bob served his country in the Vietnam War with the United States Army. He retired from Weirton Steel, after 31 years of service, where he was a foreman on the tin mill electrolytic lines. When Bob was not at work he enjoyed fishing on his bass boat and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time at his second home in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Bob was a member of the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, VFW 2716, and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. Surviving include his wife, Carol Tharp Klakos, whom he married on December 14, 1968; a brother, John W. Klakos and his wife Eileen; a sister, Delores Smith and her husband Charles; sisters-in-law Connie Gettinger and her husband Jim and Chris McFarland and her husband Ralph all of Weirton; aunts, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday at the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church Weirton, WV 26062. Reverend Father Kent Durig will preside. Interment will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery with military services conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
