Rose Marie (Brown) Allen, 84, of Weirton passed away April 8, 2011 in the Weirton Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born May 2, 1926 in Bulger, PA. Rose Marie was preceded in death by her parents Cornelius Vincent Brown and Kathryn Penderville Brown; brother John V. Brown and her husband's parents James A. and Edna Connell Allen. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James E. Allen of Weirton. Rose Marie is also survived by 4 children, Jim Allen of Phoenix, AZ; Susan (Gary) Soplinski of Weirton; Richard Allen of Weirton and Mary Kay (Joe) Heiserman of Weirton; sister Margaret Ann (Tom) Whyte; five grandchildren Carly and Danika Allen of Weirton, Joyce Bradshaw, James and Christopher Allen all of Phoenix; 3 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A graduate of Weir High School, Rose Marie was an avid sports fan. She loved the Steelers, Penguins and anything WVU. Rose Marie was a homemaker and worked for C & P Telephone. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, several bridge clubs and the Pleasant Valley Country Club. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and especially loved being with her family. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She was a volunteer for the Women's Auxiliary of Weirton Medical Center and St. Paul CCD Class. She also belonged to the American Cancer Society. Friends will be received Sunday 1-3 and 6-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30pm. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10am Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Larry Dorsch will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.

Although I didn’t know Rose Marie well, I will always remember praying with her at daily Mass for several years when I first entered the Catholic Church. Her dedication and daily commitment were truly an inspiration to a “newcomer” such as I was to the Catholic faith. Know that you, Gary and your family are in Bob and my prayers.

I’ve admired her for her many talents-hostess, cook etc – and for her love of life – cheerful and full of joy – she always had such a positive attitude – Brownie was so special – we are fortunate to have had her for a friend.   16. I am truly saddened by the passing of your mother and my friend, Rose Marie. Despite her illness and constant pain she maintained her sense of humor and love of life. It was a priviledge to care for her and hopefully make those last months as enjoyable as possible. She will be greatly missed.
