Stanley "Buddy" Stanar, 90, of Weirton, WV passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022. It was the eve of the Resurrection, and he was surrounded by the love of God and his family. He had a tremendous love of God and family and raised his children to honor God and the Church. Stanley was born on September 5, 1931, in Weirton, WV, one of two children born to Sava and Mildred Stanar. A U.S. Navy veteran, Stanley served in the Korean War. Buddy married his childhood sweetheart, Vierma Sheotes, on July 29, 1952. In over 70 years of marriage, Erma and Buddy were blessed with four daughters, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Buddy provided for his family by becoming an award-winning district manager of Western-Southern Insurance Company, where he managed over 57 agents. He nourished his faith at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church where the love of God and family merged. He lived to sing in the Petar Krstich Choir for over 60 years, starting as a child. His voice was unmistakable. He served as a past president of the choir. He also served on the church board for many years, holding a variety of offices. Stanley was also a member of the American Legion Post 10. In addition to his parents, Stanley was sadly preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew Stanar-Johnson; and his sister, Angeline Beechtold. He will be remembered by the love of his life, his wife, Vierma "Erma" Stanar; his four daughters, Sandy Stanar, Stephanie (James) Checkler, Cynthia “Babe” (Vasile) Maragos, and Michelle (Kevin)Biele; and his grandchldren, Maricela Irene Wall, Arianna Lynn Kettmer, Milena Vierma, and Strati (Stevan) Vasile Maragos, Sava Andrew Checkler, Selena Michelle, Angelic Renee and Luke Nicholas Biele; and two great- grandchildren, Maya Ann Wall, and Sophia Michelle Kettmer. Visitation will be 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV, where Pomen services will be held at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Holy Resurrection Eastern Orthodox Church in Steubenville. Interment will follow with military honors at the Union Cemetery in Steubenville. Memorial Donations may be made to the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church 528 N. 4th.
