Thomas Franklin Wigner, of New Cumberland, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021, at his sister’s home after a recent battle with cancer. He was 90 years old. Tom was born on July 15, 1931, at the family’s farm on 9 Mile Road in Saint Mary’s, WV, the youngest of two children born to Earl W. and Clarice K. Nichols Wigner. Tom’s family moved to Holliday’s Cove, WV when his father was employed at Weirton Steel. He attended Cove School and Follansbee High School before getting drafted into the United States Army. When Tom returned home from the service he found employment with Weirton Steel, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring as a car repairman on the Weirton Steel Railroad. In his free time, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and attending gun shows, and stock car races. He also enjoyed walking at Tomlinson Run State Park and flying kites. Around his home, he enjoyed watching Cowboy Western shows and building model airplanes. Most of all, Tom will be remembered as a happy-go-lucky loving brother and uncle who found happiness doing for others. He always loved being around his family especially his great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, especially Abby. Tom was a member of the Hancock County Sportsman’s Club, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the Hancock County Senior Center. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his niece, Cheryl Bell. He will be remembered with love by his sister, Isobel (Ralph) Bell, his niece and nephew, Larry Bell, Pam (Bill) Fidler; his great-nieces and nephews, Derek (Amanda) Bell, Jodi Fidler, and Mike (Lindsey) Fidler; his great-great-nieces and nephews, Logan, Scarlet, and Owen Bell and Josh, Rebekah, Chloe, Jennifer, Kinsey, Abby and Wyatt “Maverick” Fidler. Visitation will be 4:30 PM until 7:30 PM Sunday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will take place at 7:30 PM. Rev Larry Barkley will preside assisted by Rev. Randall Krebs. Tom will be laid to rest with his parents at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.   4. Many were the times Tommy either sat in my kitchen, or I in his. We’d talk for hours about anything and everything. He was a special person in the lives of my children and they learned many things from him. Especially how to be a good and caring person. RIP Tommy. We love you
