thomas spinella, sr.
Thomas Joseph Spinella, Sr. 76, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 in the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. Born November 16, 1938 in Weirton, he was a son of the late Michael and Rose Corso Spinella. He was also preceded in death by his sister Anna Spencer. With 42 years of service, Mr. Spinella retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a craneman in the B.O.P. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. For years, he bowled on the Larch Heating & Cooling Bowling team. Thomas is survived by his wife Barbara Gareis Spinella of Weirton, whom he married October 12, 1963; their children, Michael Spinella, Teresa (Tim) Horton, Thomas Joseph Spinella, Jr. , and Monica (Christopher) Zanieski; his brother, Bert Spinella and his sister, Josephine Palmeri; his grandchildren Nathan and Sophia Zanieski. Visitation will be held Sunday 2-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Larry Dorsch officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Burgettstown, PA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062 or Brooke County Animal Shelter, 797 Mac Barnes Drive, Wellsburg, WV 26070.

  1. I am so sad to hear of the loss off my friend and cousin. My sincere condolences to Barbara, Monica, Tommy, Teresa and Micheal. Cousin Tommy was always a bright spot with me and my mom and dad who had tremendous respect for his dedication to his wife and Childen. He was a special person to me and my young children who will never forget his special gift of the coins at my mothers wake. I feel so sad by the news God has a special place for him.

  4. My sympathy to the Spinella family. I worked with Tom for many years at Highland Motors. When we would see each other at Walmart we always had a little visit. Tom was a wonderful man.
