Vincent Joseph DeLuca

Vincent Joseph DeLuca, of Weirton, a man who was the epitome of love, loyalty, leadership and devotion, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 26, 2020. He was 89.
Vince was born on February 20, 1931, in Steubenville, OH, the firstborn child to Joseph and Rose Locascio DeLuca. He graduated from Weir High School, and in October of 1951 enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a staff sergeant until he was honorably discharged in 1954. When he returned to Weirton, he went to work for Weirton Steel, a career that spanned 40 years and six months. He retired as a foreman in the sheet mill.
When you reflect on Vince’s life, a common theme of respect, passion, commitment, and dedication applied to every aspect. He never met a stranger, and it would not take long to know how much he loved his family and how much they loved him.
He met the love of his life, Mary Ann, at his sister’s wedding, and they were married for 62 years until her passing on June 9, 2019. He would always say he was the proudest guy walking down Main Street holding the hand of the most beautiful woman in Weirton. They were blessed with four children and four grandchildren. Family was his life, and it is safe to say he probably did not miss more than a handful of events that they played or participated in for over five decades.
He devoted most of his life to his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities. Vince was instrumental in expanding Weirton Baseball Association to its current location at Kings Creek. In 1974 he was elected to the board of directors of the Weirton Baseball Association, serving as President from 1982-1986. During his 48 year tenure, he established the T-Ball field, the Little League Girl’s softball program, and along with his friends, re-built the bridge leading to the complex. As a coach, Vince taught hundreds of area children the fundamentals of the game. He coached Saint Joseph the Worker Boy’s and Girl’s basketball for 30 years, and Madonna Girl’s Softball and Volleyball for four years. He was an Umpire for 53 years, where he served as the District Administrator Umpire for the State of West Virginia. He served as the Chief District Umpire for Little League Baseball and Softball, and also served as an umpire mentor and evaluator. Over the years, he had the honor of umpiring several State Championship games. He will always be remembered as a grounded, mild-mannered, and fair umpire. So fair, he would even call his grandchildren out.
Vince was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church and a board of director of the Strip Steel Credit Union for forty years.
In addition to his parents, and his wife Mary Ann Melto DeLuca, Vince was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and Edward DeLuca, and his sister, Anita Castillo.
He will be remembered with heartfelt love by his two sons, Vinnie and Joseph (Darcii) DeLuca; his two daughters, Linda DeLuca and Juliana DeLuca Daugherty; his four grandchildren, Christopher and Joshua Stewart and Madalena and Nina Daugherty.
Due to the Covid 19 restrictions visitation at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home will be private.
Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be lived streamed on Saturday at 2 pm on Saint Joseph the Worker Grade School Facebook page.

What was so special to me was how Uncle Vince always had a great smile and a huge hug every time we came to visit. He always made me feel part of the family and loved! Richie loved his Uncle Vince so very much!! Rich(ie) always shared stories of his childhood with me that were funny and full of happy memories for him of his Uncle Vince!! Vince was one of the best people I’ve ever known. He could light up a room from the time he walked through the door, and Vince could always make you laugh. I hadn’t seen him for several years, but thinking of Vince would always make me smile. My heart goes out to his family in this time of loss, but this man’s spirit will live on in our memories, never forgotten.

To the DeLuca family, I have had the privilege of growing up in a time when we had great teachers, coaches and mentors and your Dad was one of the best! My fondest memories as a kid were growing up at the WBA with all the great families that helped the organization grow as it did because of men like your Dad. I am honored that I was able to take care of your father while he was with acuity. One thing is forsure he loved his family especially his grandchildren he would tell me they were his favorite but not to tell his kids😊. You all made his birthday very special this year he talked about it for day while smiling ear to ear telling me about his party.
