Walter R. Tomich of Weirton, West Virginia passed away peacefully at home on Monday. He was born April 13, 1931, in Slovan, PA, and was a 1949 graduate of Union High School in Burgettstown, as well at the University of Pittsburgh as a civil engineer. Walter was a lifelong member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church of Steubenville, Ohio, and a veteran of the US Army Corp. of Engineers, having served in Korea as a 1st Lieutenant. While in Korea, the Minister of Commerce & Industry presented Walter with a gold pin and special ceremony to show appreciation for all he did for the people of Korea. Walter was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the John A, Brasear Lodge no, 743, Free and Accepted Mason, Pittsburgh, PA; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh; Syria Shriners, Cheswick, PA; Elk’s Lodge of Weirton; Serbian Men’s Club, and Weirton Steel 25-year club. He retired in 1992 as the Superintendent of Quality Assurance, Iron and Steel. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Hilda (Susan) Tomich, sister Daisy & Don Hart, son Louis Tomich, sister-in-law Elaine Capozzoli and nephew Brent Capozzoli. He will be remembered with love by his wife, Nancy Melissia Tomich, whom he married November 24, 1957; daughter Rose (Mark) Blevins of Virginia; grandchildren Melissa (Kyle) Vitek of Long Beach, CA, Alexandra Jenkins of Hampton, VA and Michael Blevins of Long Beach, CA; great grandaughter, Nora Pearl Jenkins of Hampton, VA and nieces and nephews, William Capozzoli, Diane and Gary Roberts, David and Marcella Hart and Daniel and Linda Hart. Private funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at Noon at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, WV. Walter was laid to rest at the Serbian Cemetery in Weirton.
