William R. Thompson, 77, of Wintersville, OH, formerly of Paris, PA, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Weirton Medical Center. He was born in Hollidays Cove, WV on December 19, 1923, the son of the late Hugh and Clara Smith Thompson. He was also proceeded in death by his first wife, Mary C. “Molly” Baier Thompson in 1992, and two half brothers Jerome and Edward McGovern William was a retired crane operator in the Blooming Mill of Weirton Steel with 43 years of service. He was protestant by faith and attended Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Richmond, OH. He was a combat veteran in the army during WWII, and a member of the Weirton Steel 25Year Club and the VFW. His wife, Carol Smith Thompson of Wintersville whom he married January 15, 1997, survives. His children, Linda Thompson Doyle of Cadiz, KY and Cynthia Thompson Tustin of Paris PA, William H and Ted W. Thompson both of Weirton, WV, Richard Martini of Weirton, Joseph Martini who is in the US Air Force living in Germany, Sandra Manning and Jeff Manning both living in Columbus and one sister, Wanda ''Sis'' Jean Morgan of Weirton, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, survive. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Service will be conducted 11 AM Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. David V. Massimi officiating. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery in Follansbee. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the VFW 2716 Firing Squad and the Tri- State Marine Corp.
