woodrow showalter
Woodrow W. “Red” Showalter, 87, of Weirton, died Monday, August 09, 2004 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born July 14, 1917 in Littleton, WV, a son of the late John J. Showalter and Lydia (Burge) Showalter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve G. (Cunningham) Showalter; two brothers, John and Arnie “Nick” Showalter; two sisters, Opal Lemley and Mary Ellen McIlwham; one half-brother, Scott Sloan; one half-sister, Goldie Mae Wade; one step-daughter, Ora Lea Lemley. Woodrow retired with 32 years of service from Weirton Steel where he worked as a truck driver in the Tin Mill. He was Protestant by faith and was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. Woodrow is survived by one daughter, Hattie Logue and her husband Walter; one step-daughter, Joann Rose and her husband Thomas, all of Weirton; six grandchildren, Carl Rose, Joe Bello, Paula Wright, Diane Kostecki, Dawn McMillan, and Donna Kough; five step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; eleven step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11AM Thursday. Rev. Marvin Taylor will preside. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, with Military Services conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the V.F.W. 2716 Firing Squad. Also, I am so blessed that he got the chance to come to our reunion for the past two years. We will miss him this year which is very soon-we will miss him but now he is with the rest of our family.
