adam hudek

Adam Hudek, Jr., 78, of Weirton, WV, passed away at his home surrounded by loving family, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, following a courageous battle with ALS. Though the disease presented many challenges, Adam faced it with dignity and grace, never allowing it to disrupt the routines, values, or well-timed jokes that defined his life.

He was born on May 16, 1947, in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, the first of three children born to the late Adam and Eleanor Intrieri Hudek.

A graduate of Madonna High School, Class of 1966, Adam excelled in both football and track. His passion for football began practically from the moment he came home from the hospital, when his father placed a football in his crib and played the Notre Dame Victory March, setting the tone for what would become a lifelong and unwavering devotion to Fighting Irish athletics.

On July 17, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Patty Young, and together they built a beautiful life, blessed with two daughters and two grandchildren.

Adam retired from Weirton Steel after many years of dedicated service as a clerk on the railroad. Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community as a Home Confinement Officer for the Hancock County Courts, where his genuine care for others made a lasting impact.

Known for his heart of gold, Adam was a natural storyteller. His stories had a way of taking the scenic route, but they were always worth the trip. He especially loved talking about his travels, including his trip to the Steelers Super Bowl in Miami and his vacation to Rio, both of which only seemed to get better with each retelling. He had a quick wit and considered himself quite the comedian, often bringing laughter to those around him. He loved music, especially Doo Wop, and found comfort in his faith, often listening to midnight Mass on EWTN.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Adam had a protective nature and a well-known habit of checking in on loved ones. He faithfully requested a “call when you get there”, and if you forgot, you could count on a follow-up that was equal parts concern and gentle persistence. It was a small ritual that was sometimes a little annoying, always endearing, and unmistakably Adam. His familiar refrain will be deeply missed.

He was a parishioner of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Weirton and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3734.

He will be remembered with love by his wife, Patricia Young Hudek; his daughters, Heather (Frank) Cavoti and Ashley Hudek; his brother, Martin (Josette) Hudek; his sister, Mary “Tess” (Robert) Thompson; his two grandchildren, Angelo and Francesca Cavoti; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.

The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 3:30 PM at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, with Fr. Dennis R. Schuelkens, Jr. presiding.

Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton.

If you wish to remember Adam with a gift, please consider a donation to a cause that reflects your shared values.

A special thank you is extended to all who cared for Adam during his illness.

Candle Selection 8So sorry Patty, Tess, Marty for your loss. Adi Jo was a special person and so was your family to me growing up in the neighborhood. He was witty and always put a smile on your face. Your family was always so warm and welcoming to your classmates. With much gratitude.

  20. Dear Marty, Tess, Patty and the Hudek family. I was totally shocked to hear of Addie Joes passing!!! I had just seen him around a month ago at Walmart and had such a wonderful conversation about growing up together in our old neighborhood. I never suspected that he had such a serious illness as ALS, as he looked absolutely GREAT like he was still in HS. We must have spoked for well over an hour reminiscing about our times together in our house on 10th St. and Locust St. He had me laughing so hard about one of his stories when he was a teenager and he and Rich P. and Tommy B. snuck into my grandfather’s wine cellar and tapped a barrel and had a “little too much wine to drink.” The result was that Rich and Tommy had to carry him from Oak St. all the way up to his house on Locust St.!!!
Addie Joe was a tremendous half-back football player for Madonna, and if you put the boxing gloves on him his south paw hands would hit you as quick as lightning! I loved Addie Joe; he was a great family man and friend. God Bless him and his family. So sorry I could not make it to his services, and my prayers to all of you.

  21. Mr Hudek , Sorry for the loss of your brother. May he rest in peace. God bless Todd

    Sincerely,
    Loraine (Tarovisky) Timpson
