connie bernardi

Connie Irene (Notarantonio) Bernardi, 99, of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully at home on Thursday August 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Connie AKA “Consiglia” was born on April 4, 1926 in the village of Fagnano Alto Abruzzo, Italy. She was the second daughter of the late Anthony and Assunta (Lozzi) Notarantonio.

Connie lived the first 21 years of her life in Italy. She was a studious child who was fortunate to attend the Istituto Magistrale L’Aquila, graduating with a degree in elementary education. Upon graduation, Connie traveled to the United States of America with her mother and younger brother Dominic to join their father, who was residing in Weirton and working at Weirton Steel Corporation.

One weekend while attending a family party, Connie met a young man home on leave from the Marine Corp. named Pete Bernardi. They took a liking to each other and continued to correspond by letter until Pete completed his Marine Corp. service and returned to Weirton.

They married on October 7, 1950.

Pete and Connie made a beautiful life in Weirton and, in their 69 years of marriage, were blessed with three children, Peter (Linda Cline) Bernardi and Anthony (Lori) Bernardi, all of Weirton, and Sandra (Robert) Coram of Wheeling.

Connie was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and the ISDA Weirtonian Lodge.

Connie was the quintessential homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family, hosting holiday “get-togethers”, babysitting her grandchildren, and instructing family members in the “Art” of Italian cooking. She always tended a beautiful flower garden, and she loved to go on family vacations and short weekend trips.

She was a voracious reader who could always be found poring over the Weirton Daily Times with a cup of her favorite beverage; Maxwell House Coffee.

In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her husband Pete, her sister Nella Fiocca and her brother Dominic Notarantonio.

She will be remembered with love and admiration by her children, Peter, Anthony, and Sandra, her grandchildren, Jamie (Bryant) Bernardi, Bryan (Melissa) Bernardi, Stacie (Mike) VanRossem, David and Emily Coram, Kayla (Eric) Violet, Staci (Pat) Breen, and Molly (Jonathan) Dobbins.

She was also blessed with loving great-grandchildren, Nico, Layla, Lucas, Landon, Lilly, Braxton, Hayden, Sadie, Luna, Rudy, Gino, Harper, Archer, and Brynn. Connie was also cherished by wonderful nieces and nephews who would always come for a visit.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 4-7 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, WV.

Fr. Tony Thurston and Deacon John Basil will preside.

Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Mausoleum.

The Bernardi family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. John and Dr. Cherian and their staff, Dr. Allson Sellers, and to Valley Hospice for their compassionate care.

Memorial contributions in Connie’s memory may be made to Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 229 California Avenue Weirton, WV 26062.

  5. Candle Selection 2Aunt Connie was a special person for sure. She lived a full life to age of 99!, and the best part she was still fully mentally aware until she passed. I’m sure God welcomed her with open arms. She was kind, and she was always accommodating when visiting on short notice. I will always remember how good the food she served on short notice when we visited. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to visit as much as we should or could have, but living hundreds of miles away didn’t help. Jamie and I will always remember the heartwarming hugs. It was always a joy to visit her and Uncle Pete. I still have great memories as I was growing up in Weirton, when all the relatives got together for all the important special events!
