David Hustead Boyd, 81, of Weirton, West Virginia, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 29, 2025.

He was born on February 2, 1944, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Hustead Boyd and Rachel Adnabelle Harn Boyd. David inherited his easygoing nature from his father and carried that gentle spirit throughout his life.

He was a 1963 graduate of South Union High School.

In 1968, David moved to Weirton, West Virginia, where he began a long and dedicated career at Weirton Steel. He worked as a machinist for 37 years, earning the respect of his coworkers through his strong work ethic and quiet reliability.

On July 29, 1972, David married the love of his life, Virginia Lou Weaver. Their meeting was arranged by Virginia’s father, who had met David at the First Church of the Nazarene and famously told his daughter, “Ginny Lou, you have to meet this guy.” Prior to meeting Virginia, David was shy and had never dated, but the two shared a deep and lasting love. David was a devoted husband for over 50 years until Virginia’s passing on January 21, 2023.

David and Ginny Lou cherished their life together. They especially enjoyed traveling, with Gatlinburg, Tennessee holding a special place in their hearts. They loved listening to the Gaither Brothers music, hosting friends, and opening their home each New Year’s Eve to close friends; sharing good food, gospel music, laughter, and stories that often lasted into the early morning hours. Though they were not blessed with children after Ginny suffered a miscarriage, David and Ginny Lou filled their lives with friendship, faith, and hospitality.

David had many interests, including woodworking, painting, and meticulously caring for his landscaping. His faith was central to his life, and he was very involved in the Church of the Nazarene, serving on the church boards at both Paris Church of the Nazarene and First Church of the Nazarene in Weirton.

David will be remembered with love by his cousins, sister in law, friends, neighbors, and his Serra Village and Nazarene Church family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, from 3 PM until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.

His good friend, Pastor Larry Barkley will preside.

In remembrance of Dave, and his love for the activities at Serra Manor, memorial donations may be made to Serra Manor 2525 Pennsylvania Avenue Weirton, WV 26062.

  1. Oh how I will miss this resident. I do activities at Serra Manor and he was an awesome help to me and was always willing to help fellow residents. I knew him through is wife who grew up in the same neighborhood as me. She was a gem, too.

My one and only prayer is that he is safe in the Lords arms and enjoying time with his parents and wife.

rip, MY FRIEND, I will miss you but plan on seeing you again.
