Debbie Tassey Moses, 59, of Fairbanks, Alaska, formerly of Weirton, passed away in Valley Hospice Care Center, North, Steubenville, OH, on Monday, April 2, 2012, after a valiant 2 year battle with cancer. A devout catholic, Debbie was born in Steubenville, OH on November 17, 1952, to the late Dominic and Marie Kiefer Tassey. Debbie graduated Valedictorian from the Weirton Madonna Class of 1970, and in 1974 she graduated from Wheeling College. Upon graduation from college Debbie moved to Alaska with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and resided in Alaska for the past 37 years. She was currently a professor of Mathematics at the University of Alaska. Debbie is survived by her daughter, Maria Moses (fianc James Ford) of Texas; two sisters, Tina Crossley (Bill), and Linda McDonald (Tom); a brother, Dan Tassey (Linda) all of Weirton, WV; many nieces and nephews, as well as countless special friends, and her beloved kitties, Pancakes and Pumpkin. Friends and Relatives will be received on Holy Thursday 8:30 AM until time of services at 10 AM at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Interment will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery, Weirton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice 10686 State Route 150 Rayland, OH 43943.   1. My heart was saddened by the news of Debbie’s passing. I was fortunate to have worked beside a smiling, loving,caring & compassionate angel. She always soundly laughed at my jokes, (even if they weren’t funny)! Prayers, Peace and Debbie you will be greatly missed!

I had the honor of spending a week with her in February in the cold of a Fairbanks winter. She brought such sunshine and kindness every day, no matter what. Yahoo, she said with the end of another radiation treatment or the arrival of a delicious meal from a St. Raphael parishioner. Yahoo to you, Debbie, for the amazing joy you took in living. The very smallest things brought you joy. You inspire us all to find that goodness in every day.

  5. With great sadness, I received the news of Debbie’s death!! I am only pleased that I was able to re- connect with her at our 40th class reunion in 2010…and keep up a bit of correspondance!! People enter onto our lives for a reason and her countenance and beauty struck me forcibly that day!! My deepest sympathy to her family and friends…..an angel entered heaven the day she died!!

I know that her struggle was difficult but I will think of her now as being at peace with the Lord. She was so very blessed to be surrounded by such a loving family to care for her.   18. Debbie’s family: I worked with Debbie at the UAF DEVM math dept. as a student tutor, I’ve never known debbie as anything but the most patient, kind and understanding supervisor. She was infinitely patient when I first began as a tutor, and has mentored me and given me infinite opportunities when I haven’t been patient with students. I’ve worked with some of her students and they also spoke very highly of her. I know she wished nothing but the best for everyone she taught and worked with, and is something we carry forward with us in the department. I wish all the best for her family.

  37. Debbie embodied all that is good, beautiful, kind and spiritual in this world. She always had a cheerful word and a joyful smile. I think Debbie was one of the most Christ-like people I ever met. She was an inspiration to me, and I suspect to all who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with all her family and friends.
