dixie lemasters
Dixie J. Lemasters, of Weirton, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on Christmas Day. She was 87. Dixie was born on March 16, 1933, in Middlebourne, WV, the eleventh of twelve children born to Henry and Sarah Nolan Crawford. Dixie grew up in Iuka, WV, where she met and eventually married her childhood sweetheart Kenneth Lemasters. In 55 years of marriage, Kenneth and Dixie were blessed with a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren. Dixie volunteered at Weirton General Hospital for many years. In 1979, she went to work at Weirton Medical Center. She spent the next 16 years in the Administration/Transport Department. In her free time, Dixie loved making crafts, crocheting, cooking, shopping and working in the flower garden in her yard. She never missed a child or grandchild's sporting event, no matter what the weather conditions were. If the Pittsburgh Pirates were on TV, you would find her glued to the television. Dixie has been a member of Kings Creek Union Chapel since 1956. She sang in the choir for 28 plus years and was an active member of the church's Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Weirton Woman's Club for over 40 years. Most of all, Dixie will be remembered as a loving Christian always ready to help others in need. You could depend on Dixie. In addition to her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Lemasters, Sr.; her daughter in law, Michele Lemasters, brothers, Clemit, Howard, Ora, Gail, Ross, Ray, and Carl and sisters, Edna Willey, Irene Blankenship, Betty L. Lemasters, and Faye Minor. Dixie was the last surviving aunt in the Crawford and Lemaster families. Dixie will be remembered with love by her son, Kenneth of Weirton; daughter, Debra L. Chesney and her husband Gordon of Moon Township, PA and her grandchildren, Kasey Lemasters and his fiancé Lauren Greb, Garrett and Kelly Lemasters. Friends will be received 4-7 PM Monday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday. There will be additional visitation on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service. Reverend Russel Shuluga will officiate. Interment will follow in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA.
