dolores duffy

Dolores Jean “Jeannie” Duffy, a cherished mother and grandma, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the age of 91. Jeannie had a fierce love for her family, football, and volunteerism. Born in Weirton, West Virginia on November 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Domonic and Lena (Buracchio) DiGregorio.

She was her family’s biggest cheerleader! She attended sporting events up and down the Ohio Valley to watch her children and then later her grandchildren play. She relished rooting for the West Virginia Mountaineers and The Dallas Cowboys just as much as she did visiting the Pittsburgh Cultural District for a theatrical performance. Jeannie loved a late Hallmark movie with a bowl of popcorn! She was delighted by a Saturday shopping trip to Macy’s and a Sunday morning at church. She took pleasure in being active in community events. She preached the importance of family and community.

Jeannie generously gave her time to the community that she held so dear. In 2010, she was inducted into The Weirton Hall of Fame for her public service. She performed more than 13,000 volunteer hours serving the Weirton Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary, March of Dimes, United Way, Madonna High School, St. Paul’s School, and St. Paul’s Church. She was named volunteer of the year by The West Virginia Hospital Association. Multiple times she served as the president or vice president of the Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary. She was part of the Elks Lady’s Auxiliary proudly standing by her husband’s side during his tenure with the Elks, and she was a founding member of the Forget Me Not Twig.

She had a strong faith and was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Christian Mothers, and she and her husband were awarded the St. Paul’s School Family Tradition Award.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Paul T. Duffy Sr., grandson Christopher Micheal Duffy, brother, Bernard “Buddy D.” DiGregorio; sisters Leanora “Babe” Olashuk, Beth DiGregorio sister-in-law, Connie (Duffy) Jennessee and brothers-in law Chuck Jennessee and Gene Olashuk.

Jeannie is survived by her three sons Paul “P.T.” (Melissa) of Toronto OH, Daniel of Weirton, and Terry (Brenda) of Wellsburg. Six grandchildren Stephanie Duffy- Zimmer (Jason), Paul Duffy III (Paige), Matthew Duffy, Teirria Duffy, Landon Duffy, and Brady Fair, and three great-grandchildren Paul Duffy IV, Pate Duffy, and Lena Zimmer. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, at Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton from 4- 8 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 19, and 10 AM at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Rev.
