edward mankowski
Edward F. Mankowski, 83, of Weirton passed away on June 24, 2003 at The Inn at Wyngate. He was born November 29, 1919 in Weirton, the son of the late Frank and Loretta Marchavska Mankowski. After 35 years of service, Edward retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a crane operator in the Tin Mill. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and served his country during WWII in the US Army Infantry Division. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, VFW Post 2716, P.N.A. in Steubenville, OH and the WSX 25-Year Club. He is survived by his wife, Bernice B. (Grace) Brosky Mankowski whom he married May 25, 1946; two sons, Robert and his wife Dee of Wildwood, New Jersey and Garry of Georgia; daughter Linda Starr and her husband George; brother John Mankowski and sister Sophie Baranowski and her husband Chester all of Weirton. Edward also has three grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Visitation will be Friday, June 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV. Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10:00AM, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Weirton where military graveside services will be conducted by the Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716 Firing Squad, the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the Tri-State Marine Corps.
