Edwin M. Sample 79 of Follansbee, WV passed away January 1, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born September 3, 1925 in Holidays Cove, WV, the son of the late Joseph and Sina Dodds Sample. A brother Allen Sample also preceded him. Edwin retired from National Steel Company as a foreman in the Detinning Plant. He was a WWII US Army Veteran, a member of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge #22 New Cumberland, WV; Weirton Chapter #147 Order of the Eastern Star; Past Monarch of Tibris Grotto of Steubenville, OH; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1801; Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge #1 , Weirton; 25 year club of Weirton Steel; and AARP. He was also a Police Officer with the City of Weirton from 1950-1958, and a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Elsie Boyd Sample of Follansbee, WV; daughters Mary Anna (David) Valles, and Juanita Kelley both of Weirton; Step daughter Lori (Robin) Teaff of Weirton; step son Larry (Kimberly) Uram of Weirton, WV; brother Marvin Sample of Myrtle Beach, SC; and a sister Viola Wheat of San Diego, CA. He has 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St, Weirton, where services will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday with Rev. Patty Bucey Beagle presiding. Interment will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with Military graveside services conducted by the VFW Firing Squad and the Evert Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.
