George Joseph Jones, Jr., 87, of Weirton, WV passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

George was born on November 11, 1938, in Steubenville, Ohio, one of three children born to George J. and Marie Semko Jones, Sr. He grew up in Weirton, West Virginia, where he built lifelong roots and friendships. George was a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School and proudly served in the United States Army Reserves while earning a two-year degree.

Early in his working life, George was employed at Marantz’s Department Store, where he specialized in hanging home draperies. It was after work one day that fate stepped in; and he met Linda K. Davis, and the two were married on May 2, 1964. Their marriage was one of balance: George, the quiet and steady presence, and Linda, lovingly known as the “Mayor,” who never met a stranger.

Together, in their 59 years of marriage they were blessed with three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

George provided for his family through three decades of service at Weirton Steel, where he worked as a roller in the Tin Mill.

In his free time, George cherished moments spent with his family. When his children were young, he and Linda organized family camping trips throughout the New England states, blending together adventure and education with visits to historic sites such as Plymouth Rock and Gettysburg. When his sons were of age, George proudly served as an Assistant Scout Leader with Troop 135, sharing his guidance and quiet leadership. When the children and grandchildren were older, George and Linda’s lives centered around their children and grandchildren’s activities.

A lifelong lover of history, George could often be found watching the History Channel or enjoying his collection of Lionel trains.

He was a member of the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3734, and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda K. Davis Jones on May 18, 2023; his brother-in-law, Stanley Fiedorczyk; his sister, in law, Diane Jones; brothers in law, Mick and Dave Davis; and,, special cousin in law, Barb Carapellotti.
He will be remembered with love by his two sons, Steven, and Christopher (Sherree’) Jones, his daughter, Marybeth Jones; his brother, Robert “Bob” Jones, and his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Fiedorczyk; his grandchildren, Samantha (Patrick) Maack, Jacob (Jordan) Jones, Makenzie and Gabrielle Jones; his great grandchildren, Sasha, Gerard, Arthur, Leo, and Kieran; his special cousins in law, Mary Kay (Sam) Connor and Ralph Carapellotti.

Friends and relatives will be received at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church Vestibule from 10 AM until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Thursday.

Fr. Tony Thurston will preside.

Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph the Worker Grade School Cub Scout Pack 151 or to Weirton Madonna High School.

George’s family would like to thank the caring staff of Wyngate Senior Living in Weirton, and the nurses and care team of Valley Hospice for the wonderful care they provided their father and grandfather.
