Helen Barnabei, 94, of Weirton, WV, died Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born August 18, 1921, in Steubenville, OH, she was a daughter of the late Milos and Dorothy (Solaja) Rasich. She was also preceded in death by her husband Albert J. Barnabei: brothers, George "Bobby" Rasich,; sisters, Mildred Merlo, Molly Badis DePew, Donna Warren and Mary Reynolds. Prior to Helen becoming a homemaker, she worked at the Weirton Steel Tin Mill for four years. She was also a poll worker for city and county elections. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. Helen is survived by her son Albert Jay (Carrie) Barnabei of East Lake, OH; daughters, Patti Jean (Jack) Melnyk of East Lake, OH, Sheryl Lynn Vanniere of Herndon, VA, Kathleen (Michael) Ballato of Weirton, Gina Marie (Sergio Castellano) Simmons of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Fairhurst, Kathleen (Mark) Zivich and Dana Ballato; great grandchildren, Aiden, Nicholas and Orion Fairhurst; and sisters, Diane (Duane) Morris of Saginaw, MI, and Dorothy Rateau of Weirton. Friends will be received Monday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Reverend Father Manuel Gelido will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph the Worker Grade School, 151 Michael Way, Weirton, WV 26062 or Weirton Madonna High School, 150 Michael Way, Weirton, WV 26062.     I was saddened to hear of your Mom\’s passing.

    I will never forget the kindness that she and your father (along with Kathy) showed when my Father and Mother passed away. It meant a lot to see them at that sad time in my life. I will never forget either of your parents-We were so close when we were young. God Bless all of you.
