james moses
James E Moses died Friday August 22, 2014 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was 88 years old. Jim was born to Ruth (Gallagher) and Louis Moses September 12, 1925. Tragically, when James was only three years old, a train collided with the car in which his family was riding and killed both parents, sister and brother. James was found 300 feet from the car. Jim was raised in Steubenville by his paternal grandmother. He enlisted in the Marines at 17 and served in the Pacific, including the Battle of Guadalcanal. Like so many in the "greatest generation" he didn't talk about his time in the service. He considered his service to be duty, not to be lauded or celebrated. James believed the horrors of war were better left to fading memories. Upon his return stateside, he married the love of his life, Mildred L Barclay. They remained together for 68 years, until his death. Jim and Millie had three children; Vickie Rae Cutone of Weirton, James Michael, deceased, and Eric Ewing of Cape Coral, FL. He loved his family and his mission in life was to provide a safe haven for them. Jim was blessed with five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jim was a member of AF & AM Lodge 22, and Osiris Shriners Scottish Rite. He coached both basketball at the Millsop Community Center and Weirton Little League during the 1960s. Jim was a passionate Pittsburgh Pirate and Steeler fan, who also maintained a lifelong secret obsession for both the Cleveland Indians and Browns. A memorial will be scheduled at a future date.
