james galiotos
James “Demetrios” Galiotos, 83, of Weirton, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Valley Hospice, Steubenville. Born December 12, 1934, in Perthori Tripolis Greece, he was a son of the late Konstandino and Katerina (Gavrilos) Galiotos. He was also preceded in death by his wife Caliope (Epsilantis) Galiotos, on January 14, 2017, and his brothers, Kyriakos and Stephanos Galiotos. In 1952, at the age of 18, James came to the United States. He arrived in Ellis Island then traveled to Nashville, TN, to work with family in a dry-cleaning business. After a short period of time, Jimmy moved to Ambridge, PA where he worked at J & L Steel. While living in Ambridge, PA, he and his friends traveled to Weirton to attend a dance at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. This is where he met the love of his life Caliope Epsilantis, and the two married on July 6, 1958. Jimmy and Caliope were blessed with two sons and three daughters. Jim worked for 40 years, at Weirton Steel, before retiring as an operator on the tin mill cleaning lines. At the center of Jimmy and Caliope’s life was their church, the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. This is where they met, married, baptized and celebrated the marriages of their children. Jimmy served on the parish council, and he and his wife volunteered many hours fundraising at the festival and numerous fundraisers of the church. He was also a member of the WSX 25 Year Club and AHEPA. Most of all Jimmy enjoyed time spent with his family. He was very proud of his heritage and his homeland and was fortunate to be able to go back and visit his family in Greece. He enjoyed gardening and helping his wife cook and bake. He will always be remembered for his friendly nature, being able to make friends anywhere he traveled, and never complaining about what life had in store for him. He will be remembered with love by his son, Dino, and Mary and their children, Katarina and James, son, Bill and Paulette and their children, Karilynn (Ramsay) Fulbright and Billy; daughter, Kathy and Mark Allocca, and their daughter, Sophia; daughter, Maria and James Miller, and their daughter, Demetra; and daughter, Christina and Michael Musser and their sons, James – Michael and Steven; brothers Andreas (Tasia) and Steve (Nancy) Galiotos and sisters Kaliope (Stephanos) Papadimitriou and Zafira (George) Arhontoudis.
