Janet Ginger Truax of Weirton passed away following a lengthy illness at the Weirton Medical Center with her family by her side on June 27, 2023. She was ninety-nine years old.

She was born on June 3, 1924, in Steubenville, OH., one of seven children born to Patsy and Leona Paolomellio Dettore.

Janet graduated from Steubenville Big Red High School in 1942 and was a member of the Paris Church of the Nazarene.

She enjoyed the life she had with her husband Walter, raising her five children.

Sadly, Walter passed away on March 24, 2004.

Janet loved her family and everything that came with being a caregiver. She was a strong woman growing up in the era in which she was raised, learning from an early age to give your opinion.

Janet was very well-liked at the Weirton Geriatric Center, making friends with many of their caregivers. It was widely known that she would respectfully and lovingly give the caregivers their own special names.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her two sons James and Robert Truax, brothers George, Frank, and Julius, sisters Anna and Eleanor, and son-in-law Stanley Zgurski.

Cherishing her memory are her sons Kenny (Karen) Truax of Weirton, Randy (Teresa) Truax of Wintersville, and daughter Pamela Zgurski of Weirton, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brother Alfred Dettore and  daughter-in-law Carmen Truax.

Graveside services will be held at Paris Cemetery. Janet will be buried next to her husband Walter.

Janet’s family would like to give a special thanks to the 3rd Floor Enchanted Gardens Staff at Weirton Geriatric for all their love and care while she was a resident.
