Jerry George Jones

Jerry G. Jones of Weirton passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, January 20, 2022. He was 86 years old. He was born in Weirton on June 19, 1935, a son to the late Thomas and Sue Merkich Jones. Jerry was a 1953 graduate of Weir High School, retiring with over forty years of faithful service to the former Weirton Steel Corporation, a member of the 25 Year Club, an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a member of the VFW Post 2716. His family described him as a very loving and generous man. He was someone they knew who enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to laugh. His adoration for his grandchildren and great-grandchild was evident, he always wanted to be around them. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Joanne M. Jones, daughter, Laurie Ferguson, son Jerry Jones, and brother Pete Jones. Left to cherish his memory is his son James “Jonesy” Jones, sister Rose Israel, grandchildren Danielle Quickle and her fiancé Charles Rice, grandson Jake Jones, and great-granddaughter Isabella Rice, daughter-in-law Tracy Cipriani Kasper and son-in-law Darl Ferguson. Friends will be received from 3 PM to 7 PM Sunday at the Greco-Hertnick funeral Home 3219 Main Steet Weirton, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 AM. Pastor Marlin Hawley will officiate.
