joe volosin
Joe Volosin, 81, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away January 1, 2011, in Fort Wayne, IN. Born on May 18, 1929 in Holliday’s Cove (Weirton), WV, Joe was a son of the late Charles and Mary Fedor Volosin. He was preceded in death by his young son, Steven Volosin, who was tragically killed in a bicycle - motor vehicle accident; three brothers, Andrew, Charles and John Volosin, and a sister, Anna Granger. Joe grew up on Elm Street in Weirton, where he enjoyed caddying, with his brothers, at Williams Country Club. He graduated from Weir High School, and continued his education at West Virginia Tech, where he received a scholarship to play basketball and golf. In his third year of college, Joe signed on with the United States Air Force, and served his country during the Korean War. After the Air Force, Joe was employed by Western Union, where he worked in teletype repair. After retiring from Western Union, and helping out at his son in law’s tent and awning business, Joe maintained his love of sports. He golfed daily and loved to play cards with his son in law, and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending The Annual Volosin Family Reunion was the high light of his year. At the reunion, he loved to compete with his brothers in the family golf tournament. But most of all, he loved being around his family and sharing the accomplishments of his family, especially his granddaughters. He is survived by his daughter, Karen and Mel McClain; brothers, Pete, Mike and George Volosin; sisters, Mary (Andy) Evans and Helen Orenzuk; granddaughters, April Cook and Ashley Hofferth; great grandchildren, Bella and Nico Cook; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are being held in Fort Wayne Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church 604 Colliers Way Weirton, WV 26062.
