John L. Konkle
August 26, 1920 ~ June 3, 2010
John L. “Vern” Konkle, 89, of Weirton, formerly of Whitehall, PA, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 in the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born August 26, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Relihan Konkle. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ernest and Paul Konkle and sisters Mildred Wachter and Elizabeth McHugh.
After 33 years, Mr. Konkle retired from the I.R.S. Appellate Division. He proudly served as Master Sergeant in the United States Army.
John is survived by sons J. Patrick Konkle and his wife Sue of Beaver Falls, PA and Michael A. Konkle and his wife Robin of Pittsburgh and daughter Nancy J. Young and her husband Michael of Appopka, FL; wife Katherine D. Dowds Konkle of Weirton and her children, William Harper, Katie Harper, Nancy Collins and her husband Chris and Thomas Harper and his wife Susan; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Per John’s request, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 1PM Saturday, June 12, 2010 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will officiate.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of John. I had the privilege of knowing him through my job at Weirton Geriatric Center. He was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him.
