joseph buttle

Joseph Concetto Buttle, 68, of Steubenville, OH, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Harvey, Illinois, Joe called many places home over the years — from Las Vegas to Colorado Springs, and finally Ohio.

At 18, Joe began working at Silver State Disposal, where he dedicated more than two decades of service. It was during cosmetology school that he met his beloved wife, Stacey, beginning what would become a 42-year marriage that could only be described as extraordinary.

In the years that followed, Joe felt a deep call to serve God more intentionally. He attended Franciscan University of Steubenville, earning his degree in Theology and Catechetics, and began working toward his master’s. His studies and faith led him to the State of Washington, where he served several parishes as a Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation (PAFF).

Joe loved being outdoors, going for walks, and spending time with his family. From a young age, he had a passion for music and enjoyed sharing songs, stories, and laughter. His interests were vast — fishing, bird watching, reading, studying the Bible, following politics, and delighting others with practical jokes and clever puns. He was never bored with life, finding joy in whatever he did, especially playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Stacey Buttle; his son, Joseph Buttle (Monica), and Joseph’s two children, Jackson and Vincent; his daughter, Jenna Mort, and her six children, Isaac, Caleb, Treyson, Dominic, Olivia, and Levi; his mother-in-law, Patricia Norman; his brother, Don (Diane) Buttle; his sister, Eileen (Kevin) Sechrist; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe will be remembered for his humility, deep faith, creative spirit, and boundless love for others. His laughter, kindness, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now home — resting in the peace of Christ.

Friends and relatives will be received on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Greco – Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton from 2 PM until 4 PM.

Immediately following the visitation on Friday a Parastas Service led by Fr. Luke Iyenger will be conducted at 4 PM in the funeral home.

A Blessing Service will be held on Saturday November 1, 2025, at 8:30 AM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV followed by a Funeral Liturgy at Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 3116 Elm Street Weirton, WV at 9:00 AM on Saturday.

Rev. Fr. Luke Iyenger will preside.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Our Lady of Wisdom Byzantine Catholic Church Columbarium 2120 Lindell Rd, Las Vegas, NV.

Candle Selection 2So very sorry for your loss, Stacey. I treasure the time I spent working in your Catholic bookstore in Las Vegas. You two were a spiritual gift to me. Tom and I also enjoyed the Bible studies you held at your home in Vegas. We want you to know that because of the time we spent with you we taught several Ascension Press bible studies from 2010 to 2016 when Tom retired. We still live in Richland Washington and volunteer at our church there. May many happy memories bless you and your family. Linda and Tom Pysto

  11. Candle Selection 5As a new(er) mom, I’ve been thinking a lot about the stand out moments of my childhood in an effort to recreate them for my son. Uncle Joe is at the center of so many of them. Standing with a guitar, teaching the kiddos his rendition of “shaving cream,” helping us hang spiders from the staircase to scare Aunt Stacey, directing us in the critically acclaimed “Tommy the Trashman,” and so much more. He helped make my childhood so memorable — and so fun. Something I know was at the heart of his relationship with my dad, lovingly referred to as “Buff,” and their too often terrorized little sister, Eileen. One of my favorite recent memories of Uncle Joe was when he showed up at my office in San Francisco unannounced. We spent the night together catching up as uncle/niece but also as adults. Even though we were both older – his sense of good, silly fun, hadn’t budged. We joked, we laughed. It was such an unexpected surprise. Just another stand out moment I’m lucky to have been gifted with. Rest in peace, Uncle Joe. You will be missed but not forgotten.

  12. Candle Selection 2May your journey be filled with joy as you enter the gates of Heaven.
Embrace your mom and dad for us that miss them so dearly.

I will never forget you . Until we meet again Rest easy now you are home ❤️

  15. Candle Selection 2I worked with Joe at Walmart DC 7017. He was the nicest and funniest person. He will he missed.

  16. Candle Selection 2Dear Joe and Stacey. Without you I never would have met Fr. Francis nor become Byzantine. I’ll always remember your beautiful voice raised to heaven during Liturgy, the studies we all shared at the Mustard Seed, the rosaries we prayed at your home as well as the struggles life brought into our lives. I will pray for you as you make your way to see the Face of God and for the family you left behind here. Blessed repose and Eternal memory.

  18. Candle Selection 7I didn’t know Joseph, but I knew about him from his grandson Isaac who is a very close friend of mine. He told me lots of stories about his grandfather and grandmother in Stubbenville Ohio. They practically raised him. Isaac was there about 6 months ago and sent me pictures, I know that he loves his grandfather very much. I was very impressed by Joseph’s life. So he inspired people that he didn’t even know! In the end he suffered greatly, no doubt he died a martyrs death . ETERNAL MEMORY PAPPOU JOSEPH!!!

  19. Richard & Linda Isola and Family says:

Candle Selection 2Sending the Buttle family our deepest sympathy. We were heartbroken to hear of Joe’s passing. It has been a long time since we have seen Joe but our memories of him are everlasting. He will always be remembered as a great friend with a compassionate heart and a quick smile.

  20. Jack and Donnalee Ahrens says:

To our dear friend in Christ
Those we love don’t go away they walk beside us every day. Unseen unheard but always near, so loved so missed, so very dear. Stacy we are deeply sorry for your loss but the mercy of Christ has been shown. Joe,A true lover of God and a lover of neighbor. Always sharing his talents and wisdom with the youth and service to the Lord filled with integrity, truth, wisdom and courage leaving his light on the lives of others.

  21. A true story to share,
Joe and Stacy had a Catholic bookstore in Las Vegas Nevada. Called the mustard seed. I went in to buy a statue of Jesus. I came out with a statue of Blessed Virgin Mary. Joe was helping me and I walked through the shop and I told him I wanted a statue of Jesus that I didn’t see any on display. He said to me”Jesus doesn’t sell”that statement has stayed with me for over 27 years the length of time I have known him and Stacy what a prophetic statement that was and still is in our world today… Love and miss you Stacey

  22. Candle Selection 8Stacey so sorry for your loss. Love and prayers for you and the family. Love the Polesky’s

  23. My first memory… Sam said his coworker Joe might stop by and say hi at your work tonight…. I thought to myself… WHY…… When I met him and talked to him I knew WHY……….. From then on we were friends with Joe and Stacy. Joe was a rare individual who accepted people for who they are……He had a way of making everyone feel safe and accepted. Shine on BEAUTIFUL SOUL……

  24. Stacey and family,
Although I only knew Joe for a little over 4 1/2 years, to know Joe was to love him. We somehow were able to communicate even under the difficult circumstances. During our walks, I got to know Joe more and more each day and I knew Joe was a special kind of man, but I never knew how special. I was glad during our time to be in Joe’s company but more so now I’m getting to know Joe through his family and friends. Knowing Joe, he got a free pass and went directly to heaven and when Stacey notified me that Joe passed, she said Joe went to heaven and I believe that wholeheartedly. I will miss our walks. RIP
    Nothing But Blue Skies Joe.
