Joyce Drane of Weirton passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023, after a brave battle with lung cancer. She was 78 years old.

Born March 5, 1945, in Steubenville, OH, she was one of two children born to Samuel Payne and Mary Sava Redish.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Joyce was a member of the All-Saints Greek Orthodox Church, where she served tirelessly for over 4 decades. She was a founding member of the parish festival committee and was the festival food line chairman since 1988. She also served as past Festival General Chairman. She served as a Sunday School teacher for more than two decades, where she served as Sunday School Supervisor for 3 years. In addition to helping with Vacation Bible School she served on the Parish Council from 1991 to 1999, serving as recording secretary for 8 of those years. Joyce was an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope, serving in many executive capacities including president of each organization. She spent many years of dedicated service as a volunteer for countless parish events, cooking dates, and office needs.

She was a member of the Weir High Class of 1963 and a former co-leader for the Campfire Girls.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her loving stepfather, Michael Redish; her husband, George F. Drane, Sr. and their infant son George F. Drane, Jr.; sisters-in-law Diane Payne and Betty Drane.

Joyce’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of honesty, goodness, sweetness, kindness, and hard work will continue to inspire us. She will be remembered with love and admiration by her daughter Regina K. (David McGraw) Costain; brother George R. Payne ; sister, Linda (Pearley) Adkins; grandson Tanner (Angelica) Costain; great grandchildren, Dominic and Lydia Costain; brother in law, Ancil Drane; sister in law, Barbara (Neal) Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday from 5 PM until 8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton.

Additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 10am until the 11 AM Funeral Liturgy at the All-Saints Greek Orthodox Church. Father Matthew Moore will officiate.

Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Weirton.
