Larry F. Dotson, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020. He was 77. Larry was born on July 7, 1943, in Youngstown, OH, the youngest of four children born to Harry F. and Freda M. Turner Dotson. Larry grew up in Weirton, WV, and went to Weir High School. Weir High School is where he first met Priscilla “Penny" Setlak. In July of 1962, Larry enlisted in the United States Army. When he was home on leave in March of 1964 to attend to his father's illness, he and Penny Setlak went out on a date. Larry and Penny were married on August 6, 1966. In their 54 years of marriage, they were blessed with two children and three grandchildren. He worked at Weirton Steel, as the river pump house operator for 38 years. On the side, he was a private investigator and a member of the Weirton Police Reserves. A private airplane pilot, for twenty years. Larry was also a Major in the Civil Air Patrol in Ohio County, West Virginia. Larry and Penny nourished their faith at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, where Larry served as an altar server, eucharistic minister, and church council member. He was a member of the WSX 25 year club, Weirton Heights Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post 10, Pilots for Christ, Couples for Christ, and the Weirton Jaycees. Always busy and never sitting still, he also served as president of the local chapter of the American Red Cross. For fun, Larry loved flying his airplane, but nothing compared to the times he cherished with his family. He will always be remembered for his honesty and his generosity, always putting his family first. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Dotson, and his two sisters, Patricia Law, ad Gloria Alexander. Larry will be remembered with love by his wife, Priscilla J. “Penny” Setlak Dotson; his son, Jeffrey J. (Jennifer) Dotson; his daughter, Julie Ann (Ron) Bricker; and his three grandchildren, William (Skyler) Kelly, Ryan Dotson, and Alanna Bricker. Visitation will be on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 5 PM until 7 PM at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday at the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Tony Thurston will preside. Interment with military honors will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV 26062, or to any organization that benefits our veterans. Larry’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff and caregivers of Serra Village for all the love and care they gave to Larry while he was a resident of Serra Manor.   8. Dear Penny so sorry to here of Larry Passing. My self and Mike Rizzo, and Eddie Rocknich play football with Larry and walk to High School together every day with him. But as we got older we all when different ways But we all Loved each other and lived in the best of times in Weirton. God Bless You Penny and Larry is now at rest in peace.
