Lois Mary LaMantia
October 5, 1920 ~ July 16, 2014
Lois M. LaMantia, 93, of Weirton passed away Wednesday July 16, 2014, at the Weirton Medical Center.
Born on October 5, 1920, in Secinaro, Italy, Lois was a daughter of the late Alfred and Maria Santarelli Fazi. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. LaMantia, Sr., on February 6, 1995; and two infant sisters.
Lois traveled with her family to the United States when she was 6 years old. Growing up, she helped with her family's restaurant, the Sorrento Spaghetti House located in downtown Weirton. Later on she worked with her brother, Dr. John Fazi, and was his office manager for 32 years.
Her life was her family and her church. She enjoyed reading, cooking, attending her grandchildren's activities, and every now and then a trip to Mountaineer. She enjoyed following the Weirton Madonna Blue Dons, as well as the Steelers, Pirates, Mountaineers and Notre Dame.
Lois was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, where she served as secretary for many years, and the Christian Mothers.
She is survived by her two sons, Joseph J. (Karen) LaMantia, Jr., John ( Raelene) LaMantia; her two daughters, Mary Lou ( Kenny) James, with whom she resided, and Patricia (Regis) Lounder; her brother, Dr. John "Bert" (Sylvia) Fazi; her sister, Edna (Tony) Battista all of Weirton, WV; seven grandchildren, Dr. Ken James (Kristin); Gina Skunza (Andy), Janna LaMantia, Erin Hayes (Ryan), Lindsay Fought (Justin), Joe Lounder (Dana) and Sarah LaMantia; great grandchildren, Kamden James, Parker and Preslee Fought, Maddox and Tristan Hayes and one on the way; a very devoted friend, Dorothy Skrab; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8 PM Friday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main street Weirton, WV.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.
Rev. Fr. Tony Thurston will preside.
Interment will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Joseph the Worker Church Ceiling Fund or to Saint Joseph the Worker Grade School.
