Louis Joseph Scardetta, 88, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, formerly of Weirton, West Virginia, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the Veterans Hospital in Aspinwall, PA.

Louis was born to the late Joseph and Philomena Tordalino Scardetta. He was a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, Louis returned home and worked at Weirton Steel Corporation.

Louis will be remembered for his extreme generosity and unwavering commitment to helping others, often donating to charities close to his heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and took great joy in making those around him laugh. In his quieter moments, Louis enjoyed watching movies and relaxing at home.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his two sisters, Rosemarie Matlak and Cecelia “Sissy” Scardetta, and his nephew’s wife, Diane Matlak.

Louis’s kindness, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him, including, his nephews, Matthew (Gypsy) Matlak, Mark (Karen) Matlak, and John Matlak; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Matlak.

A private service will be held at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street prior to his cremation.

His cremated remains will be placed with his family at Saint Paul’s Cemetery in Weirton.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Scardetta’s memory to Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church 140 Walnut Street Weirton, WV 26062.
