lucia gelini
Lucia “Lucille” Maria Gelini passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on Friday, December 16, 2005. Lucille had celebrated her 88th birthday two days earlier with her new friends and caretakers at Bay Tree Rehab Nursing Center and with her oldest and dearest friends and her family in a festive celebration at her favorite Mexican Restaurant in Palm Harbor, Florida. One of eleven children, Lucille was born to Vito (Guida) Weeda and Angela Marie Giannone in Wellsburg, West Virginia. It was during her years as a Follansbee High School basketball star that Lucille was swept off her feet by Floyd Waldo Gelini, married Floyd and remained his bride for 64 years. Moving to Weirton, Floyd and Lucille raised their three children, Charles, Floyd J. and Nancy blessed with the love and devotion of the Gelini and Weeda families including grand-parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lucia Marie Weeda Gelini was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and has been cherished and loved as the family historian and matriarch of her extended family, including Weedas, Guidas, Gelinis, Readys and Cooks. Lucille and Floyd, through their years together shared great joys and great sorrows. From their loved ones came the joys, and from their loved ones came their sorrows, the passing of their cherished daughter, Nancy and the passing of their beloved daughter-in–law, Karen Riley Gelini. Enduring her losses with the strength and dignity, Lucille continued to devote herself to family and move forward. Lucille was an extraordinary woman. Friends and family will honor her memory as we pass to our children and grandchildren the stories of her incredible intelligence, her strength, her flawless memory and tales of travel and her absolute, unconditional love of family. Lucy has touched the hearts of many, many people, young and old; her legacy of love will remain in those hearts. Lucille is pre-deceased by her husband, Floyd W. Gelini. She is survived by her son Charles and his dear friend, Lauren Wyse, son Floyd and wife Patti, son–in-law Edward Ready and wife Kate Maseth Ready and nine grandchildren, Edward and Francis Ready, Joseph, James, John and Thomas Gelini and Wirt, Michael and Colleen Cook. Lucille is also survived by brother–in-law, Howard Gelini and wife Virginia, and sisters- in- law Ella DiBartolomeo, Louise Gelini, Jean Gelini, and Marjorie Weeda and loving nieces and nephews from the Weeda, Gelini, DiBartolomeo and DeSantis families. Lucille is also survived by her two best friends, Bernadine Treppa and Armeda DiLorenzo. Friends wishing to pay their last respects may visit on Monday, December 19 from 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, West Virginia.
