mabel karavanic
Mabel Christine Karavanic, 90, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born January 25, 1922 in Sparta, WI, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Bertha McElwain Peterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Peter G. Karavanic and sister June Wurster. With her registered nursing degree, Mrs. Karavanic served as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. After her military service, she worked for Weirton Medical Center and the former Weirton General Hospital. Her life revolved around raising her children and caring for her family. Mabel is survived by her sons Thomas Peter (Ruth) Karavanic and Charles Martin (Karen) Karavanic all of Weirton; daughter Kris (James) Dunlap of Richmond, OH; brother Walter (Waverly) Peterson of Wisconsin; 6 grandchildren Monica (Jeremy) Nichols, Jody, Abby, Peter, Janna and Jillian Karavanic and great-grandchildren Thomas and Elizabeth Nichols. Private services will be held at the convenience of her family. Entombment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
