Marcella Z. Begovic

Marcella Z. Begovic, 89, of Weirton, formerly of New York, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. She was born May 9, 1921 in Weirton, the daughter of the late Eli and Jennie Helen Merrick Zatezalo. She was also preceded in death by brothers William and Sam Zatezalo, nephew Nick Zatezalo, Jr. and sister-in-law Nancy Zatezalo.
Marcella is survived by her brothers George Zatezalo and Nick Zatezalo and his wife Bessie all of Weirton; sisters-in-law Danica and Louise Zatezalo and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Friday from 10 until the 11AM funeral service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. The Very Reverend Father Rade Merick will officiate. Interment will be in the Serbian Cemetery.
Masha was Teta Masha to my kids. She went to their nursery schools on Grandparents Day. We all loved her so much and miss her so much. I’ve never known a more noble woman. May God grant her Memory Eternal! Lila
Masha was one of the first Serbs I met at St. Savas when we were at St. Johns the Divine Cathedral on 112th. St. She was always there to greet us with her great smile and warmth. Masha was the pillar we all relied on. She made a difference for so many years. Vechnaya Pamyat.
She was the most righteous and wonderful cousin, who will be greatly missed.
Marcella was not only a “best cousin”, she was a “best friend”. I’ve known her most of my life; she would visit my mom, her Aunt Mildred, faithfully and when Mom died she was right there to lend a helping hand. At that time we don’t know what we would have done without her. I admired her very much for her fine qualities – she was smart, kind-hearted and loving. I will always remember the pleasant times we spent together.

I had the pleasure of taking care of marcella in the nursing home and the evening of her passing. She touched my life in many ways with her wisdom and outlook in life and always had a smile for me.
