Margaret C. Wallace, 89, of Weirton, a role model and leader to many women seeking a career in business, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV. Born May 13, 1919 in Follansbee, WV, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Carmela Ciccolella Cocco. She was also preceded in death by her husband John D. Wallace, brothers, Dominic, Mario and Leo Cocco and sisters Kathleen Basile and Elvira Olivetto. Until she was 80 years old, Margaret served as President of Alco's Store in Follansbee, WV. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton Woman's Club, Garibaldi Club and the Business & Professional Women of Weirton (BPW) where she served as president in 1980 and 81 and was honored as the West Virginia Woman of the Year in 1979. In 1998, Margaret chaired the 50th anniversary celebration of the Weirton BPW. She was active in the BPW blood analysis program, and the Weirton Kiwanis where she volunteered to assist with the yearly auctions. Secretary of State A.J. Manchin named Margaret an ambassador for West Virginia. Mrs. Wallace is survived by her sons John D. Wallace of Colorado Springs, CO and William Wallace and his wife Christine of Wheeling, WV; daughters Carmela Sheposh of Wintersville, OH, Jacquelyn Anetakis and her husband George of Weirton and Elizabeth Pacella and her husband Gary of Stroudsburg, PA; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and sister-in-laws Betty Cocco of Follansbee, WV and Kathleen Wallace of Steubenville, OH. Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to the BPW Scholarship Fund or to the Saint Joseph the Worker Church.
