margaret dziatkowicz
Margaret Jean Dziatkowicz, 91, of Weirton, passed away Monday, April 13, 2020, after a recent battle with stomach cancer. Her family was at her side. Margaret, the true image of grace and class, and also known as “Mom,” “Marge,” and “Baba,” was born in Weirton, WV, to George and Agnes Hudak Lazur on December 14, 1928. Her father passed away when she was only 18 months old, which led to her steadfast faith in God beginning at a very young age. Marge graduated from Weir High School in 1946 and started working as a Tin Flopper at Weirton Steel. She later went on to work at Paper and Press Ink, as well as a cooker/baker at Sacred Heart of Mary Grade School. On November 22, 1948, she married Joseph “Spooks” Dziatkowicz, and they were blessed with nine children. On November 12, 1972, Joseph passed away suddenly due to a heart attack. Even after her husband’s sudden death, Marge did not let her faith shudder. She continued to raise all nine children on her own and instilled the importance of keeping the faith in all of her children and grandchildren. Marge never focused on the things she wanted or didn’t have -- instead, she always found a reason to be grateful for the blessings that God gave her. Even after she retired from Paper and Press Ink, Marge continued to volunteer countless hours over many more years. She was an active member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Christian Mothers and Holy Family Guild. She also served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and a member of the SHM Athletic Board while her children attended school there. She cooked and baked for all of the SHM Polish Picnics and Lenten Dinners. She also helped to organize all her Weir High Class of 1946 reunions. In addition to constantly serving her church and community, Marge was the matriarch of her entire family. On most days, she had a gallon of homemade iced tea, a home-cooked meal, and dessert prepared for whatever company walked through her front door. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, and she was always the life of the party. She hosted family get-togethers for every occasion imaginable. It didn’t matter how big or small, she loved to get everyone together. One of her most recently created events included her annual Halloween parties, where family members were only admitted if they were in costume. She loved jello-shots and singing karaoke. For her 90th birthday party, she had a Luau and danced with hula dancers and fire dancers. She cherished these memories with her family, and she instilled in them the importance of getting together and carrying on traditions. During her seldom down-time, Marge enjoyed relaxing in her recliner, reading books, and watching crime shows, Grey’s Anatomy, HGTV, Food Network, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Her door was always open for whomever wanted to visit, whether it be her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, or neighbors. She treated others like her own family and made anyone who ever came around feel welcomed. She was the best listener and made each person she had a conversation with feel like they were the only person in the room. She remembered the tiny, special details about anyone she met. If one of her children or grandchildren mentioned that they were in the mood for a certain meal or dessert, she made it special for them within the next few days. She was the epitome of selflessness, generosity and kindness -- she always put herself last. Stubborn, honest, hilarious, and outgoing, Marge could light up a room anywhere she went with her contagious smile and laugh. She loved having wine nights and playing board games with her grandchildren, and going out “gallivanting” to Dollar Tree, or to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory or Olive Garden. Baba will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Stanley Dziatkowicz; her son, Joseph Walter Dziatkowicz; her two brothers, Andrew and George Askler; her three sisters, Ann Rujak, Mary Visnick, and Cicelia Semanek; and her fiancé, Joe Paul Herman. Marge will be remembered with love by her five sons, Michael (Nikki), Richard, George (Sherree), Mark (Cathy), William (Prudence) Dziatkowicz; her three daughters, Peggy Thomaselli (Bob), Maureen Kerr (Doug), and Celeste Dziatkowicz; thirteen grandchildren, Josh (Kathryn) Thomaselli, Heather (John) Baker, Michael Dziatkowicz, Melorie Butto, Brent and Doug Kerr, Samantha (Bill) Hamilton, Dylanna (Joe) Sadler, Victoria and Aidan Dziatkowicz, Alexis (Joey) Littleton, Makenna (fiancé Cameron Rauch) Dziatkowicz, and William Dziatkowicz; her five great-grandchildren, Ryder Thomaselli, Hannah and Hadley Baker, Jacob and Nevaeh Butto; and Joe Paul Herman’s family. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic a Mass of Christian Burial was not permitted in April of 2020. Friends and family are now invited to attend a Memorial Mass 10:00 AM Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM, prior to the Mass. Memorial Contributions may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com

Certainly you will grieve this tremendous loss, however, her loving smile and genuine goodness live on in each and every one of you.
