Born on October 5, 1926, in Weirton, West Virginia, Marie was one of two daughters born to the late Nick and Anita Rose (Benzia) Michellis.
On September 26, 1953, she married Captain Joseph Charles Rumora of the United States Air Force, sadly Joseph died of a sudden heart attack in May of 1960. With remarkable courage and determination, Marie raised their three daughters, providing a home filled with love, faith, and an example of a strong work ethic.
Marie dedicated many years of service to Hancock County Schools, retiring as a secretary at Weir Junior High School. She took great pride in her work and the relationships she built with colleagues and students alike.
A woman of many simple joys, Marie loved working in her yard. Her family fondly recalls that her home on Pleasantview Drive was affectionately known as a “beacon for stray dogs,” a testament to her deep love and compassion for animals. While living in Weirton, she was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, where she also was a member of the church choir. Marie also cherished the friendships she maintained throughout her life and especially looked forward to her monthly card games with her lady friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her grandson, Robbie DeBiase, and her sister, Irene Gunser.
She will be remembered with love and gratitude by her three daughters, Anita (Robert) DeBiase, Catherine (John) Gallagher, and Barbara Rumora; her grandchildren, Joseph DeBiase and his wife, Mary Albrethsen, and Makenzie Gallagher.

Aunt Marie was the dear friend of my mother, Virginia Kucan. She called my mother Ginny.
She was there when I was growing up. The attached photo shows her with me when I must have been less than a year old. There are photos of her in my parents’ wedding, and she is in our home movies, too. I remember her as a loving and caring woman who laughed easily.
My sympathy to the family…
Linda Kucan
