Marion Gene Huffman, 91, of New Cumberland, West Virginia, passed away on March 16, 2023.

Gene was born on January 2, 1932, in Tyler County, West Virginia, one of four children born to Otha and Margaret Spencer Huffman.

Gene graduated from Tyler High School in 1951 and went on to serve in the Navy for four years. After his military service, he returned to a 43-year career at Weirton Steel in the Tin Mill as a buggy driver before retiring. On September 24, 1957, he married Eileen C. Wargo, with whom he spent 65 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with three children, three grandchildren and seven grandchildren.

Gene had a passion for bluegrass music and was a skilled banjo and guitar player. He played in numerous bluegrass pick-up bands and was well respected in the bluegrass circles. He looked forward to the annual Bluegrass Festival in Butler, PA. For relaxation he enjoyed mowing grass, tinkering around his home, and working on cars.

He nourished his faith at Nessly Chapel United Methodist Church in New Cumberland, WV, and was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club.

Most of all, Gene will be remembered for his friendly outgoing personality, always willing to help others in need. He was a good man, a throwback to a different era.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother Gail Huffman, and his sister Marylea Edge and her husband, Phillip.

He will be remembered with love and admiration by his wife, Eileen Huffman; sons, Jim and Alan Huffman; daughter, Darlene Sperlazza; sister, Sharon (Roger) Kirk; grandchildren, Craig (Courtney) Brandon (Kalee), and Eric (Tina) Sperlazza; and great-grandchildren, Herrik, Analei, Fredrik, Maxim, Mia, Angela, and Kolton Sperlazza.

Family and friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 PM and 6-7:30 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton. Funeral services for Gene will be held Sunday at 7:30 PM in the funeral home.
Interment will take place at 1 PM Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton. Military honors will be conducted by the US Navy and American Legion Post 10.
