Marlene Marsh, 83, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 in Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH. She was born August 4, 1933 in Weirton, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Clara (Kearns) Kokochak. She was also preceded in death by her husband David R. Marsh and brother Michael Kokochak. For 45 years, Marlene served as the Journalism and English teacher for Weir and Madonna High Schools. She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church where, for many years, she served as Eucharistic Minister and reader. She was also a member of the Tri-State Wine Makers Club, Steubenville Players and was a founding member of the Over the Hill Gang. She was a member of the Literary Department of the Weirton Women's Club, where she was instrumental in bringing author Pearl S. Buck to Weirton. Marlene had an unconventional sense of humor. Mimsi Bleckner, Chickie and Auntie Bob were some of the special aliases she was known by. She was an award-winning poet, talented artist and was the creator of "Ludmilla". Surviving are her daughters Catherine (Thomas) Gruda of Weirton and Amy (T.J.) Burchfield of Steubenville, OH; sons Michael Marsh (Miranda McCullough) of Falls Church, VA and David (Donna) Marsh, Jr. of Alexandria, VA; brother Jan (Amity) Kokochak of Plant City, FL; sister-in-law Dora Kokochak of Weirton; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday 1-3 and 5-7PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at10am Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Larry Dorsch officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton, WV Please consider a memorial contribution to the Hancock County Animal Shelter, P. O.   5. Dear Marsh family, What a terrible loss. Our wonderful neughbor! Marlene was possibly the most interesting woman We have ever known. So many skills! She was a teacher but she never stopped learning. Fabulous cook, crafter, wine maker, gardener, family historian, seamstress, gifter, animal lover, world traveler, humorist, poet, story teller, photographer and mom! And i know that does not begin to cover what she meant to all of you. I hold you all in my heart and prayers after the loss of this great lady.   8. I remember Marlene very well from times when she substituted at Weir Junior High many years ago. It was at that time that I discovered that she was a childhood friend of my mother. Then in the days when I was at St. Paul’s it was always good to interact with her and enjoy her intelligent quips and sense of humor. I know she was a loving mother and you now grieve her loss. Please be assured of my deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers.

  9. She was my English teacher the year she got married,we had called her miss k and it was hard to get used to calling her mrs marsh. I also remember she loved west side story.

  10. I am so sorry about the loss of your Mom. I have so many happy memories of her. She always had such a great sense of humor. If it wasn’t for her my parents would have never met and she was such a great comfort when they both passed away. I am sorry we can’t make it back for the services but my prayers are with all of you.
