Marvin A. Strope

Marvin A. Strope of Weirton loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Villa Vista Royale in Steubenville.  He was 73 years old.

He was born on November 30, 1948, in Washington, PA., one of seven sons to Ralph and Frances Barbish Strope.

Marvin served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a member of the 1966 graduating class of Follansbee High School. He retired from Weirton Steel Corporation with thirty-five years of faithful service in the Skin Mill and holding membership in their twenty-five-year club.

Marvin enjoyed spending his time fishing and golfing locally, but he enjoyed his days every Monday night with his daughter Shauna throwing darts at Shooterz, she went on to say that her father was the greatest person she had ever met. His granddaughter Charlee remembers him as a “big ball of sunshine!”

He had an enthusiastic sense of humor, and he knew everyone. After his retirement from Weirton Steel, he found himself employed at BFS in Weirton at the corner of Three Springs and Cove Road. Making many new friends, Marvin would hold his daily coffee hour and it eventually evolved into his favorite hang-out, solving all the World’s problems.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Lee, Perry, and Chuck Strope.

Left to cherish his memory with love and admiration are his wife Barbara Wagoner Strope, whom he married on June 2, 1978, daughter Shauna (Peter) Riccardo, and granddaughter Charlee Strope all of Weirton, brothers Roy (Carol) Strope of Canonsburg, PA., and Larry (Karen) Strope of South Carolina.

Friends may visit with Marvin’s family on Thursday, September 22, from 3-5 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Where services will be conducted at 5 PM.

Burial will take place at the convenience of his family.

Pastor James Rhodes will preside.
