Mary Ellen “Moe” Altazan, formerly of Ethel, Louisiana. Loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, and friend to so many of Weirton passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Weirton. She was fifty years old.

Moe was born on January 1, 1973, at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah. The only daughter born to Wayne and Barbara Crouch Owens.

Moe had an innate way of caring for people, and she demonstrated this throughout her professional career as a Paramedic, working throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, and West Virginia. She received a bachelor’s degree from Harding University and her Paramedic certificate from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

She married the love of her life, Shannon Altazan on May 15, 2006. Shannon describes Moe as a loving individual with a love for nature, accumulating an outstanding album of photographs of waterfalls and of course her favorite, hummingbirds. She had also been accepted as a member of the Allied Artists of West Virginia after exhibiting her photography.

She found solace and complete enjoyment with many of the beaches on the Gulf of Mexico and her well-known favorite, Smather’s Beach in Key West. This led to her other passion, a self-proclaimed “Parrot Head” and a loyal follower of Jimmy Buffet, finding herself part of his live audience eight times.

Moe had a passion for people and a passion for life, her contribution to the welfare of individuals while as a Paramedic will live on forever in each of the families she served as well as the ones she mentored and helped train.

Moe was preceded in death by her father Mr. Wayne Owens and half-brother Wayne Dee Owens.

Left to cherish Moe’s memory with love and complete admiration are her beloved husband Dr. Shannon Altazan of Weirton, and her mother Barbara Owens of Huntsville, AL. Half-brother Clifford (Jana) Owens of Mustang, OK. stepdaughter Cassandra (Alex) Manning of Louisiana and her loving Pitbull, Max.

Friends will be received from 5 PM to 9 PM on Monday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
