mary perozich
Mary Martha Perozich, 89, formerly a lifelong resident of Weirton, died in the Embrace Hospice Facility of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, due to complications of a fall. Mary was born in Weirton, WV, to John and Martha (Goban) Garan on August 27, 1931. Mary was a lifelong resident of Weirton, and attended Weir High School. She was very proud of her Slovak heritage, making her famous pierogies and Paska bread for Easter. The love Mary had for her Catholic faith revealed itself every day. She had a great devotion to our Blessed Mother, reciting the Rosary in the morning and again in the evening. She spent much of her time volunteering at St. Joseph the Worker Church, decorating the sanctuary for the holidays, preparing goods for the numerous bake sales and bazaars, and being an integral part of the Christian Mother’s and Knight’s of Columbus 3734 Auxiliary. Mary was quite the Notre Dame fan. It was a tradition for her and her husband Mario to make their annual Fall trip to South Bend, Indiana, to watch their beloved Fightin’ Irish. But nothing compared to the enjoyment Mary had in her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and was always happy when her great-grandchildren would face time her and say, “BaBa!” In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Mario Perozich and Louis Perozich, brothers William Pasternick, Mike, Joe and John Garan, sisters Ann Gerbo and Helen Vincej, and stepfather, George Lisich. Left to cherish Mary’s memory is her brother George Garan, daughter Patricia (Dale) Gurgiolo, grandchildren Matthew (Kelly) Gurgiolo, Heather (Justin) Thom, and Katelyn Gurgiolo, great-grandchildren Kaden and Jaxon Gurgiolo, and countless nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Saturday at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. The Reverend Father Richard Perozich will preside. Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery. COVID-19 regulations will be followed for visitation and mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 229 California Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com 304-748-3219.

Guestbook

  1. Eternal rest give unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she Rest In Peace. Amen.

  2. Patty, my condolences to you and your family. Mary was such a good person and a good friend to my mom. I’m sure they’re in heaven together and forever at peace and happy.

  3. Patty, My deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother. My dad (Joe) and my mom (Helen) Zdybicki were really good friends with your parents as well as with the McNeils (Gene and Ann). Years of fun loving memories. God Bless Joanne (Zdybicki) Winkler

  4. Patty, I was so sorry to hear of your dear mom’s passing. She was such a sweet, kind, funny woman–I loved the way she doted on you, yet also made us neighborhood kids feel special too. I remember the way your parents (and your Baba!) used to sit out on the porch, listening to Pirate ball games with Bob Prince. Your dad taught us how to hit a softball, up in the field by St. Joe’s! Your house always had the best smells from your mom’s wonderful cooking and baking. Thank you for posting the video–it was a joy to see your family as it has grown over the years. And you were such a beautiful bride! The obituary was wonderful, too. Such a nice tribute to your mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for being my best childhood friend!

  5. Aunt Mary you will be forever missed. Some of my best memories are of you, my mom (Anna) and Aunt Pearl creating wonderful meals and the best desserts! I still make the Cheese Pie every Easter. I can only imagine the family reunion going on in heaven right now! Thank you for the memories.

  6. Dear Patty, Mary was a charming, lovely woman. I’m sorry for your loss. She was a sweet friend and neighbor with all of us, as was your entire family. She’s left you with a life full of best memories. The recent sadness of her passing will be replaced by the joy of your lifetime together. Dino Catignani

  7. Farewell to my first friend as I moved to Deya Street…you were my backyard over the fence mentor and counselor, we shared so much over the years….Eternal Rest Grant her O Lord May you Rest In Peace….💔🙏💔
