Merle L. Bush, 83, of Weirton, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at his home. He was born October 15, 1918 in Newport, OH, son of the late Arville Bush and Mary (Rowland) Bush. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Claire, Willard, and Arville Bush, Jr. and two sisters, Irene Cassidy and Mary Hartshorn. Merle retired with 30 years of service from the Weirton Steel Corp. where he worked as a General Foreman of construction riggers. Merle served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps, serving the Pacific Theater in the Philippines. He was a charter member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, a past Deacon and Trustee of the church, a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, Weirton Senior Citizens Club, and Spinning Gears. Merle is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wanda (Barkhurst) Bush of Weirton, whom he married March 23, 1939; a son, Merle A. “Buck” Bush of Follansbee, WV; three daughters, Darla Anderson and her husband James of Colliers, WV, Sandra Briggs and her husband Ronald of New Cumberland, WV, and Denese White and her husband Dale of Steubenville, OH; two brothers, Gale Bush of Newport, OH and Ronnie Bush of Marietta, OH; two sisters, Wilma Hayes of Newport, OH and Sylvia White of Marietta, OH; eight grandchildren, Randy Anderson, Robin Vendetta, Renee Spindler, Mary Ann Bush-Jeter, Sean Bush, Nicole Balakos, Eric Brown, and Tara Warrick; ten great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and two step great great grandchildren. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Saturday and 7-9 PM Sunday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, where funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday with the Rev. Kregg Burris presiding. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military services conducted by the American Legion Post 10, VFW #2716, and Tri-State Marine Corps.
